After 7 years of flying, 6,000 IFC posts, 3 years of IFATC, 30 edited airports, and 5 years of VO management, I have moved on from IF. In short, this is due to the fact that I feel that IF doesn’t properly appreciate or credit the many extremely dedicated volunteers (including myself at one point) that make them what they are, they just profit off of them. Yes, there are a few who get the recognition they deserve (primarily because they are “friends” with the right people), but there are thousands more that don’t. I might come back someday when, for example, regular people who have spent 100s of hours creating graphically detailed airports for the sim get a large discount on their subscription, beta testing access, or at least proper in-game credit (which I have been directly told was “too hard”). For now though, I no longer want to support a company that, for so long, I was literally paying in order to contribute to. There are so many other places that I can put my sim ATC, graphic design, and management skills where they will be properly appreciated. My conclusion: This is an amazing flight sim, but don’t fall into their trap as so many do, thinking that their volunteer work will lead up to something, when all they’re doing is quitely making money for IF behind the scenes.
