Hey everyone, I’m Justin. I live in the foothills of the Appalachia and have always been fascinated by flight sim. This is obviously the treasure I had been searching for.
A family member inspired my love of aviation on helicopter ride bout 30 years ago. He was a pilot who volunteered for Oklahoma St., mainly the men’s basketball team. On January 27, 2001, he, the co-pilot and 8 members of the university athletics dept and two who were players perished in an accident.
I’ve been blessed to travel, having flown into Charles De Gaulle in Paris, Atlanta multiple times, Orlando, St. Paul, Philadelphia, etc.
But for some reason, at 9 years old, my grandparents took me and my twin on a summer vacation to Alaska, that was driving from Kentucky to Alaska.
*I linked the final report, condensed, as I have a copy of the full FAA report and it’s a thorough document. It’s still hard to fathom my grandfather’s brother was piloting that night. But he loved doing it. And he would love this.
It’s a subject that isn’t taboo and in fact, changed many regulations the NCAA implemented later that would overhaul team travel.
It’s also sad and statistically unbelievable that the women’s basketball team lost their coach and some staff in a crash in 2011.
