Yeah. Idk, I wanna ask my parents for a camera or my own but I’m gonna have to wait till Christmas and these are expensive. I think my Canon bias is dying down so if anyone has any suggestions for what camera a should buy, while canon is still preferred (bc I’m more experienced with them), lmk

I think at this point it doesn’t make sense to keep going EF, would save for mirrorless I think
ah gotcha. honestly im down for switching brands to Nikon or Sony because the M200 already sucks ergonomic wise but I haven’t tried any other bodies or lenses. any recommendations for body+lens under 1500? I honestly don’t know what expectations to hold because my circumstances always vary.

yes, IS stands for image stabilization so yeah you should have less issues with shaky hands and all of that.
and as for this, you (probably) don’t really need a brand new lens. I got mine used for 190ish in excellent condition, and, like it said, the condition was pretty perfect!

It does but I’ve never really understood the shaky hands thing. You’ll be shooting at like 1/500 or more and at that rate I don’t it’ll matter too much. I’m not the most stable either but I can shoot no stabilizer just fine during the day.

Hey there! I’d like a recommendation if you don’t mind. Finally gonna take that leap and get into aviation photography. As I’ve mentioned my location is perfect I’ve just never been motivated to do it… at least until I tried my friend’s camera and got a couple shots lol.
I’d prefer a canon, though I’ll go with anything that you think is good. The reason I’m asking for a recommendation is because the items in the original post really aren’t going to help me. First off, I really need this to be cheap, like preferably below $400 for a camera and a lens in total.. which I know is really low in photography. Second, I prefer a lens with a minimum of 250mm as the maximum zoom. That’s the zoom I’ve discovered is good to zoom into the aircraft flying directly over my house when they’re landing on the 13s .. but I’d love to get some good quality shots of the departures off of the 31s… and those planes are a LOT farther away. But still, the photo below was taken on an iPhone so I’m sure if the camera has good quality it won’t be the worst thing in the world if I can’t zoom in all the way to it.
Lastly, I’d love to take night shots of the departing aircraft. I’m not too knowledgeable in night photography, but I have heard that if you have the exposure triangle theory down you can take them. Not sure if this is true for moving aircraft or for all cameras, but at the end of the day as long as I get day shots, I’m happy. All in all, I’m not too knowledgeable. I just want something that has good zoom and good photo/video quality, while saving as much money.
So… what do you recommend?

400 is actually not that limiting if you can buy used and set some more aside for accessories. Beginner Nikons do tend to be better values on the used market, D3400s especially are in my opinion undervalued from a pure photo standpoint when you compare with the Canon competition which for a similar product can be 100+ dollars more. Plus Nikon offers a cheap but solid 70-300 lens, if you want quality and 300 on a Canon it’s going to be like 300 more dollars for their 70-300 (although that lens is definitely better than the Nikon one). Canon does offer a very nice 55-250 but it will definitely be worse at Howard or whatever the spot is.
Think I’d forget about night at this point. Having a night setup worth using is at least a grand. You can try but it will be extremely difficult and probably won’t turn out well.
