Your thoughts on fighter jets "escorting you"?

I was doing a nice little flight last week, only to be escorted by an F-18 for about 1 hour. The thing is, if he would’ve been flying with some decent separation, I wouldn’t mind. But he flew right through my aircraft multiple times, rocking his wings, slowing down so I crash into him, all those things. I flashed my landing lights multiple times to show him that I’m not really liking it, but to no avail. So, I’m curious, do any of you have a similar experience? Or if you do this as a fighter jet, why?

Personally I think on the Expert Server there needs to be an automated violation for breaking separation when:

  • you aren’t under ATC control
  • when neither or only 1 of you has the Flight of X
    callsign suffix.
  • one or both planes are “active” (i.e. the user is active at their device)

If you want to escort someone, contact them first, if they respond and agree you can both add “Flight of X” to their callsign suffix. If they don’t agree - tough.

Escorting aircraft could be fun as long as they would give acceptable distance.

What the user did to you is in my opinion not acceptable on the Expert server.

I agree. It’s just really annoying when you’ve been going at a long haul realistically for 8 hours only for it to be ruined by some guy in a fighter.

Exactly. I think the concept is cool, and as @BennyBoy_Alpha said with agreement of the airliner pilot. I didn’t want to immediately complain on here since I don’t want to be an a-hole, but it I saw a topic relating to it so that’s why I remembered now.

You’re not at all😅
I understand the frustration as it destroys the immersion, especially when they’re flying trough you. This topic and the feelings are really justified.

Expert Server got it’s ups and downs lately. Some users behave like it’s the training server, or even worse, Casual server.

I’ve noticed that on the Expert Server. I was actually reading a topic about it this morning that it’s slowly becoming a 2nd training server. But luckily, there’s still a lot of good pilots and IFATC’s making it a great experience. (And good VA’s ;) )

If anyone finds me, feel more than free to escort me. I like this kind of thing.

tbh i love to escort but realistically

How would that be managed for people with custom callsigns grandfathered from before 20.2 though?

About escorting aircraft, for me I don’t mind getting escorted but I still would rather not get escorted. Because I stream a lot though, people often do randomly intercept me, so in that situation, I don’t mind being escorted by other people. (People escort me with airliners from time to time as well on stream 🗿)

I don’t mind as long as they keep the minimum radar separation of either 3nm lateral or 1000ft vertical.

Same but if they are acting like an idiot then I won’t like it. I’m yet to be escorted though.

I’m generally fine with escorts.

However, you can be 100% sure that if you collide with me in the air you’ll receive a violation because I’ll contact the amazing team of IFATC supervisors who make sure the rules are abided by even when ATC is not active.

The system isn’t reliable enough for this. More than once I’ve been flying with someone and it’s shown them active at 2 or 3 am and they confirm the next morning they were dead asleep.

Personally I don’t mind people escorting me during cruise. I honestly probably wouldn’t even notice it since I don’t usually check my device. As long as you’re not messing with me trying to takeoff or land then it’s chill.

Since aircraft in Infinite Flight have no collision with each other, I don’t really care if I’m being escorted or not. When it’s in an active airspace with atc, I’d like them to keep a “realistic” distance away from me so I don’t get in trouble for something I didn’t do

I’m a member in a military VO, and experiencing unwanted escorts…. Never gets old. I’m against escorts unless requested, reason being most of the time the people escorting don’t have a clue on how to escort. Nothing more annoying than someone buzzing you when you’re minding your own business.

But who do you apply the violation too if both aircraft are active? To us it is fairly obvious if one airplane is flying in a normal manner and the other is intercepting it, but to do that automatically is not nearly as trivial a task.

Yeah there is that. I mean one way could be whoever has the higher ground speed but that itself would have its flaws.
