Your Guide to Kona International Airport

The Full Guide to Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport at Keahole (PHKO)

One of the busiest airports in the Hawaiian Islands aside from Honolulu and Kahului, Kona International has a lot to offer, and with that, sometimes you may need a guide! Kona International is the last of the major Hawiian airports to become 3D in Infinite Flight. It was worked on by @DeerCrusher, @RedWolf, and @BLee all at separate times, and was started in 2021. I hope you’ll enjoy this airport and the guide!

Cargo

Please note that some routes may be outdated/wrong because of charter cargo and the fast-changing cargo network.

  • Aloha Air Cargo (Hilo [ITO], Honolulu [HNL], Kahului [OGG])

  • Atlas Air (Kahului [OGG], Ontario [ONT] operated by Atlas Air)

  • Kalitta Air (Los Angeles [LAX])

  • UPS Air (Honolulu [HNL], Kahului [OGG], Ontario [ONT])

Fixed Base Operators (Private Jet and Charter Operations)

Atlantic Aviation (South side of airport)

Signature Aviation (South side of airport)

Both FBOs serve any jets that can fit on the ramp, but the most common charters/private jets seen at Kona belong to private owners, NetJets, Flexjet, and Sun Country (charter). Rarely in the past we have even seen an Antonov at Kona!

I was purely going off the route list provided by Wikipedia (maybe not the best idea 😂) but I do know that flight exists.

Kona is currently having some big changes including a new indoor area that’s not yet on the satellite imagery, meaning it’s pretty new and isn’t added yet to IF. This also means that some international flights are being disrupted at the moment if I’m not mistaken.

If you see here, it looks like this MAX 8 from YVR is parking at a tie down but this is actually now part of the main terminal area, with a brand new building. I actually went into that building when it was just finished a couple years ago, and I have to say; the air conditioning in there is way better then the hot sun in the open-air part of the terminal 🥵!
