It annoys me when people use runways in Expert Mode that are actually marked red. Wouldn’t it make sense to get a Level 2 violation for that, so we can manage traffic flow properly? What do you think?”
Just yesterday, I experienced it as a total disaster again. All aircraft had to do a holding pattern over Melbourne to land on the opposite runway R34(green).As soon as ATC went offline, everyone flew the fastest route to Runway 16(red) which led to chaos — at least for a short while.
This should not happen in Expert Mode
Not all airports use runways that use favorable winds (aka green runways).
Were you landing in Adelaide? Could you elaborate more on what happened?
Oh sorry, I meant Melbourne Airport. Everyone was being directed to Runway 34(green).When ATC went offline, everyone suddenly took the fastest way to for Landing on Runway 16(red) while other aircraft were already lined up and ready for departure on Runway 34.
I see. I do understand your frustration, and agree this shouldn’t happen in expert, however I think Level 2 violation is a bit too much. As I said, there are airports that use red runways, and for a Level 2 violation to happen at every airport for landing on a red runway would be unreasonable. Just my thoughts on this.
Sometimes just talking about it helps, im just interessed to know if others here share the same opinion.
I hate this way of thinking just because the runway is red or yellow in IF doesn’t mean that you cant land or takeoff on that specific runway and should only use green runways because in real life that’s not always the case the best option and most realistic options is too check FR24 for what runway is actively in use.
I don’t like your way of thinking either. It’s common for runways to be used from one end one day and from the other end the next. In my opinion, this only leads to chaos and congestion.
Adding to this, yesterday at Melbourne the primary landing runway most of the day was 27, which was red.
What if the winds are weak but the game still shows the runway red because of the ,weak, winds? In real life if there is for example a 5 knot tailwind on the side of a runway that has ILS but it’s 5 knots headwind on a runway that doesn’t have ILS then the ATC will clear the aircraft to land on the runway with ILS. Of course the runways you are talking about might have ILS on both sides if I’m correct so I suppose my point doesn’t really makr sense in that scenario.
The fact is that when ATC is present, they determine which runways are used.
When ATC leaves, pilots are basically free to do whatever they want.
No one is there to “police” them at that point.
That’s just the way it is.
No one can be forced to use a certain runway, without ATC present.
Expert isn’t perfect. It never will be.
Seb said it very well:
I just find it unrealistic for the game when aircraft are lined up waiting to take off, while others are landing from the opposite direction. That’s what I was trying to point out.”
I know, I just said it to show a scenario where getting a level 2 (or even level 1) violation would be a bit extreme.
That’s totally fine. I was just interested to see whether others share my opinion or if it bothers others the same way it bothers me.
Have a good day🙂
