I’m currently working on a new third-party utility called Step Climber, and before I get too close to a release, I wanted to share the concept with the community to gauge demand and get your ideas.
What is it?
Step Climber is a standalone mobile companion app that connects to Infinite Flight via the Connect API v2. Its primary goal is to handle your VNAV step climbs automatically during long-haul flights.
How it works right now:
Auto Climb-Only VNAV: It reads your flight plan and target altitudes, waiting for the right distance and conditions to automatically initiate your step climbs.
Smooth VS Transitions: Nobody likes a sudden 3000 FPM pitch up! The app uses a custom smoothing algorithm that gently steps your Vertical Speed (e.g., +/- 100 FPM every few seconds) to match your target altitude realistically.
Custom Safety Limits: You can set a maximum climb FPM and a Minimum AGL gate so the auto-climb only engages when it is safe and appropriate to do so.
The Roadmap
Right now, the initial rollout is being built and tested specifically for Android. However, iOS is absolutely in the plans for later down the line once the core features are polished.

What additional settings, constraints, or features would make this a “must-have” for your ultra-long hauls?

We can’t integrate with AP+ since it’s an internal Infinite Flight feature. But Step Climber already does exactly what you want by reading your flight plan and automatically adjusting the standard autopilot for you!

I’m a very busy person; I work weekdays (Monday through Friday). Specifically, the auto-step-climb feature would be important to me. So, I could, say, launch the simulator and app in the morning before leaving for work (let’s say, flight KSEA-HAAB on a 777F), and in my absence, my plane would automatically climb to the correct altitude at the correct time according to my flight plan. I’m ready to be your beta-tester, even today. I’ll do everything you ask and will be happy to help you in any way I can.
