Why was the A330 rework so neglected?

Compared to the Boeing 777 rework where new engine sounds and almost all variants were added (777-200ER, 777-200LR, 777-300ER, 777F) , the A330 family seems to be neglected with only the A330-300 (GE and RR powered) and A330-900N.

The A330 family is the most popular widebody out there (talking about the most number of operators), but the reworked outcome was disappointing to say the least. The A330-200 wasn’t added, nor was the A330-300 (PW powered). Why?

The A330F and the A330-800N weren’t added was probably understandable due to the limited number of operators out there hence it didn’t make sense. But there are so many A330-200 operators out there and PW powered A330-300s as well (Korean Air, Asiana, and Malaysia Airlines to name a few big names)

Can any one of the development team help to explain this rationale?

Small victories… Small victories. While I am regularly sarcastic in a certain feature request of which is about a livery that was the second most voted livery and seen in the public eye for more than 3 years, considering there is not a Delta 788, Aer Lingus A359, and probably a few others. Anyways, please, take some time and humble up and appreciate the hour and hours and hours of work they have done and continue to do to make this a very realistic simulator.

I think that the PW engine type had too low operators to be made.

Regarding engine sounds, there an entire article about that. If I’m completely honest I’m fine with them. But I do understand the frustration.

Regarding variants… they seemed to stop doing families since the 777, before it was an entire families or all popular variants and now it’s just a variant or two.and I honestly dislike it.

Yeah, I agree with the engine sounds too. It works fine for me but when one and another thing is lacking and is compared to the 777 family. It looks like the A330 reworked is neglected

Honestly, the aircraft quality has been the same/similar ever since the 777. Though more animations have been added overtime.

Heres the big debate that the community cant decide on:

Would you rather have huge updates (families of planes) that are not on a “normal pattern” (we wait years), OR have smaller updates (with single or couple popular variants) that are released on a normal schedule (which we are on now) .

We’ve been on both, and in both situations, we either complain about lack of updates or lack of features. The devs can not do both.

I personally prefer monthly updates over huge updates that would take years to develop.

We should have got the A330-200 with the the A333 Rework!

“Years” is an exaggeration IMO. Once an aircraft variant in a family is done, the rest of the variants should have some similarities, thus having their development faster. For multiple variants, it should only take a few months (judging from 20.2). Personally I’d wait an extra few months of new variants before moving on to the next project.

But the standard has improved with time, which will require longer development.

For sure.

The biggest jump in quality was from 2013/14 to 2015. The A320 was added in 2015 and many fly it regularly.

Exactly, given the development of A330-300 and 900, it should have paved way for the A330-200 given its similarities apart from the length and tail (which btw has a ton of operators out there)

Fuselage length changes are a bit more complex, but still they are very similar (We’re talking IF standards, not IRL)

was hoping one of the developers will be able to answer the question as well too…

Yes. This is better than getting it faster but lower quality and only one variant while if your just a little patient the updates are gonna be better

Tbh I would have rather seen the A330-200 over to A330Neo any day!

By quality im assuming you mean update quality. Plane quality doesnt change. IF releases the plane when it is finished.

The A330s in IF are amazing, and I am very satisfied and happy with the work of the team.

But it’s true that a lot of us would’ve liked to see the A330-200 aswell, considering it would have improved long haul simulation by bringing unique liveries that are otherwise not on any other widebody as of now or just mainly present on that variant (thinking about Tunisair, Air Algerie, Air Serbia, Air Transat…).

The A332 just has so many operators and is such a popular variant.

I still hope to see the A332 make its way into IF someday.

The A330-300 is the first priority for IF when adding the A330 series. See , the 747 and 767 are in desperate need for a rework :)

I do. But I would rather wait longer for the whole family than only getting one variant
