Go find a globe and hold up a piece of string at the starting and ending points. If you hold it loose enough you can make the path go over the Atlantic ocean.
However if you pull it tight the string will go up over the poles.
I’m still trying to find that Mr. Wizard episode from the 80s where he shows that. It was like a lightbulb moment.

Some of the variations also have to do with wind, even if your a die hard flat earth we you have to admit that the North Atlantic jet stream can be pretty useful in a quick flight.
Earth is flat.
