Hi guys! I am flying from FACT to PHNL.I am curious abt why there arent any pilots flying in that area. Secondly i wana ask what is the use of APU, is it a system that operates the movement if the plane when taxing? thx for answering!૧(●´৺`●)૭
APU Can start up your systems before you turn engines on
The APU (auxiliary power unit) is a small generator in the back of your plane that generates power, electricity and controls hydraulic flow. Once all of you’re engines are on you can turn it off because the engines will do the job then
Can it let the plane move without turing on the engines?
No you need engines to move forward but if you only want to turn then you only need the APU
I can think of several reasons:
- There aren’t any terrain there, making Antarctica uninteresting.
- No scheduled flight to and from Antarctica.
- The scheduled flights overflying it are few and only long hauls
The Auxillary Power Unit is a source of electricity for the aircraft which is more powerful than the battery, able to power the aircraft when the engines are off.
I want to ask whether using FPL or flying strightly to destination are faster during long hual flights?
Using FPL is likely more accurate and smooth, but doing a visual approach and having a direct line could be quicker
Although for long flights, a flight plan will almost always beat a direct flight, especially if it was made by simbrief, since that takes weather and approaches and such into account
An APU is essentially an additional engine located at the back of the aircraft that provides power when there’s no GPU available. However, a GPU is used at airports most of the time. Unfortunately, the GPU in the simulator doesn’t power your aircraft, so you have to use the APU.
Flying across Antarctica is rare because most routes are flown more efficiently elsewhere. Flying to Antarctica…have you ever tried in IF? It’s a horrible experience since it’s all flat and white without any features.
