Why is there always so much turbulence in (KDEN) Denver?

Hey guys is it me or is there always turbulence when flying into Denver International? I don’t know why there’s so much turbulence there? Maybe the mountains? Not just Denver but vail too? It’s so strange

I’ve flown into Denver. It wasn’t too bumpy.

The mountains definitely would have an affect. Don’t know much about Denver so I wouldn’t know any other factors.

It’s bumpy do too the mountains. Mechanical turbulence forms off the mountains. I won’t go farther Bc I stink at explaing things. Maybe an airline guy can help me out

Mechanical turbulence is one thing along with mountain waves. On top of that, lenticular coulda can form on mountains which can cause some bumps

Per N1RG, mechanical turbulence and wind. The fact that it is also high up above AMSL and other factors.

Cause of the high altitude at KDEN the winds are stronger

LOL, we hardly get any wind here!

The people above are right, it forms off the mountains. You wouldn’t notice nearly as much turbulence if you approached from the east.

It’s because KDEN is the Devil’s airport

Okay absolutely silly kid theories aside, it’s because of the mountains being so. Coming on a westbound arrival or departure.

How dare you say that, sir?!

This is probably why. Looks like these so called “mountain waves” are the tsunami’s of aviation

My southwest flight stopped into Denver, landing was fairly smooth, but once we took of it was extremely turbulent.

I mean, it’s called the Mile High City for a reason ;)

There’s a lot of wind especially during the spring and summer at DEN. Almost all the flights I flew in and out of there were bumpy especially when we went west of the field.
