Why Heavies so much?

Can someone enlighten me on why it seems like a majority of the community flies widebodies? I’ve gone the whole flying the Challenger 350 and have actually decided to go into corporate aviation and working around business jets as a career in the real world. I’ve always loved smaller planes. So, what draws so many of you to widebodies? Now if we get the Global 7500 I can do long international flights but I don’t want to do it with widebodies haha. So, what’s your draw to the big boys?

I agree I wish there was a lot more long range private jets

Same here, I’d never fly airliners again lol.

Rip the citation X, may it rest in peace

While I appreciate how some bizjet like global 7500 have more range than some regional / narrow-body airliners, I prefer commercial airliners because of how long I flown commercial airliner irls, it’s just became natural for me to fly wide-bodies

Maybe it has something to do with the wide bodies being more new and sleek in terms of graphics and detail. They tend to be more reworked than narrow bodies. The only narrow body rework I can remember as of late is the 757. The rest are the 777,A330, and A380. All of which are widebody aircraft.

I feel your frustration, I hate flying in a 717 or CRJ and having an A350 behind me and a 777 in front of me taxiing, feels like they’re gonna run over me lmao. But to each their own I guess, we have a huge selection of planes for a reason so if somebody wants to fly KLAX-KSFO in an A380 they’re more than welcome to do so. I’ve done it once or twice too lol

This last sentence reminds me of old IF days when apparently players flew in and out of Channel Islands all the time. I think…

Yes that was it. I didn’t fly it tho since I wasn’t aware at the time that was a thing. I was a newbie.

Because it feels like driving this

jk aside, simply because its hypnotically a graceful marvel in engineering when you watch it take-off and land.

I prefer heavy’s for example flew from Doha to Washington and Doha to Sydney. On the 777-300ER can fly around the world in that beast.

I would have loved to have the Gulfstream G650ER but unfortunately they don’t want us peasants (jk) flying there aircraft in sims :weary_face: I’d love to see the Global 7500 :raising_hands:t3:

What gets me is when people will do a 30 min flight in a wide body, it’s just so unrealistic😭

Don’t forget the entire ERJ series and the addition of the A220…

I agree with you. Unfortunately most people are just drawn to the big jets for their sheer size and long, exotic routes.

Here at UND, almost all of the aviation students want to go into the airlines and fly internationally. I’m definitely more of a “I want a job in which every day is different,” kind of person.

Currently exploring the military, government contract, and law enforcement careers- and I replicate that in IF.

I can’t be a pilot due to medical reasons so I had to ask the tough questions those at UND for example never had to. Like how is the lifestyle? Will I hate it? Young aviators don’t ask themselves these questions which I feel like is a huge disservice cause it’s not all rainbows and unicorns, but thanks to pilot influencers they think the career is amazing.

I want to go into corporate aviation and be a ground worker at an FBO. I am around planes and can be in my bed at night. I don’t want the responsibility of 100s of people’s lives.

I forgot about those 2 :PP

It could be an accessibility thing. Most people won’t see private jets/corporate aviation when they go to the airport, travel, etc, but commercial aviation is relatively common worldwide.

People relate to it commercial aviation and the widebodies are the “coolest” version of commercial planes.

You can fly the Challenger 350 for 9 hours without Autopilot+ (with Autopilot+ you can fly however far you’d like). Before autopilot+ was a thing, I used to fly trans-atlantic and trans-pacific all the time (Ex: KIAD - LGAV | RJAA - KVNY | KTEB - LTFM)
