I have been playing IF for so long, from primary school students to high school students. I really want to know how the IF airport is judged. Especially for GA Airport.
In other countries and regions of the world, especially the United States, there are many airports with combinations of numbers and letters, but what about in China? None of them.
These two photos are the actual map of China’s airport and the map in IF. I only show Sichuan because my hometown is there, and I can see that there are many airports in China on my map.
In IF, we can’t let the landscape editing team add airports, and I don’t know how IF judges the airport. We can find the public airport, latitude, longitude and runway information. So, where is the airport?
It’s mostly due to how open each country’s data sources have historically been. For as far as I can remember, the FAA publishes all the relevant aviation data in a standardized format, which has made it easy for aviation tools like Infinite Flight to use this data to build a pretty accurate representation of every airport, grass strip, etc. This has not been the case globally and the quality of aviation data varies a lot.
Our data is growing in China and other regions thanks to editors who are knowledgable with the respective region. As you noted, we don’t support adding new airports right now due to some development constraints (it’s on our list, in the past year we have been focusing on our new renderer), but this is something we wish to look at in the near future.

I fully understand them. I belive “metal project” development that this occupies the vast majority of IF development power. I’m glad to hear that you will consider more airports in the future. I’m looking forward to this day!
