Okay, so now you want to insult all of us, by saying we are uneducated. 😕
Look, when you’re only about to start your eighth grade year, (this is me), I haven’t learned about this in my school yet.
He’s SemiRetired! Probably like 40 or 50! He has way more knowledge of this then most of us here.
I know, like 65% of us are under 18. Probably more than that.
More than that! Way!
MaxSez: @PlanesForLife… No just the great unwashed!. Don’t know you so so I can’t comment on your status. Find your offense telling thought. If you’d like we could continue this by PM.
I understood 1% of that.
It doesn’t have anything to do with radar coverage, do you really think there is radar coverage in the Arctic? It just appears like that because the earth is a round sphere and they are trying to represent the distance on a flat map. Look at @Rexton’s pictures below, they support my claim. Hopefully you guys understand now.
No, AF has served Boston for years! Check your PM to find out more. :)
Thanks for the pics, it helps prove my point.
To say this in the shortest answer possible. It’s not curved… The earth is. Look up the great circle on Google to get a better understanding
Because earth is round. Is that clear enough?
It’s basically like on the highway where cars face different sides.
Planes going across the Atlantic Ocean never come face to face. (You could even see it on the flight radar)
Oh. So you mean beside.
Yeah you’re right.
My dad told me about this once, it’s because of the Earth’s curvature. If you look at it from a different perspective, it’ll be straight ;)
Here’s some fascinating reading on how ATC determine how planes “curve” over the Atlantic ocean on a daily basis. Take a good long look at the references as well, not only useful for new knowledge, but great for global flight when it launches.
As above its the curvature of the earth.
There are only eastbound trans-atlantic tracks active right now. Can’t really have that kind of highway traffic when Gander and Shanwick won’t even let you go the other way. They handle west-bound traffic for 12 hours, then east-bound for the next 12 hours. Rinse and repeat, there is no highway thing.
