I notice on some SIDs it says “Maintain 5000 FT, expect clearance to filed altitude 10 minutes after departure” on the routing instructions. What does this mean? I’ve tracked flights IRL that have never stayed at 5000 FT. Why does it have this?
Happens in congested airspaces
You would advise when arriving 5000 I guess and be cleared step by step to cruise.
In IF I just look around and climb up to cruise
It’s for comm failure. Usually you get cleared to a higher altitude before you level off
I usually follow it as stated, while requesting altitude change. If it’s somewhere like LAX, you may not even have to maintain the altitude at all.
