Why do airlines get rid of the A340?

This aircraft has an excellent safety record. I think there is no single soul that died flying on it in it’s history (I googled). You can argue that there are only a few of them flying in history compared to other models, but still, even with the incidents that occurred, the pilots managed to get out the emergency situations.

Not the most efficient compared to 777.

… And they’re being replaced by the A350…

Not very new either

777 is relatively safe and so is the A340

It can do the same as the 777, but as the 4 engines. the 777/330/787/350 is much more fuel economic than, the 340.

must be the 737

777 have had almost no crashes, compared to the 737. Of course the 737 have flown for more than 40 years, and is used much more often, than a 777. All aircrafts are safe, otherwise they wouldn´t be flying.

Because of fuel consumption

People have died on the A340. air France 358 went off the end of the runway at Toronto Pearson international.

No one has died on the A340… Everyone survived Air France 358…

The problem with the A340 is that it’s extremely inefficient compared to newer plane like the 777, 787, A380, and A350. The 777-200LR and the A340-500 have similar ranges, but the 77L is more efficient, as it requires only 2 engines to go further than 4 engines. As well, the A340 was launched in I believe the late 70’s and early 80’s, and technology has changed a lot since 1980. As well, it’s gotten to the point where the A340’s are so old that they are becoming hard to maintain, just like the older 747-400’s.

Whoops. Got my dates and aircraft mixed up. I was thinking of the 747-400. Thanks for clarification :)

Why do airlines get rig of any aircraft?

Because they get outdated, inefficient and… just old.

For those saying that it should be the safest it won’t be as it relies on how many are in service that’s why the B777 is the safest even though there have been deaths there are much more of those flying then A340’s so it can’t be safer it’s the same with the A380 no deaths on that but it’s to new and again not enough in the air flying

No problem man 😁

I love the A340 especially the 500-600 versions! Sad to see them go! Like everybody has said, they are far too inefficient for airliners to justify the costs of running them!
