Why are planes so loud

I can hear lots of planes flying over my house 5 miles above me. I know there all descending for landing into KDTW. I can hear there engines loud and clear. But how come its quiter in the passenger cabin then its louder 5 miles away.

Because the engines are usually behind you in the plane so you can’t really hear them as well. Also you are in an insulated cabin.

Well there is cabin insulation…
