Why airplane engines are so big

It all comes down to the bypass ratio of an engine. More air being accelerated while bypassing the engine core higher thrust with higher efficiency.

The most biggest engine for commercial planes only are the GE90 for 777 family.

If I remember correctly, the size of this engine is the same as the fuselage of the 737 !

The larger the bypass ratio, the more efficient an aircraft is. Think of the Dreamliner, massive engines, great efficiency

Yeah. Wasn’t efficient, which is why many airlines have already/are switching to the Airbus A380 (or 787) which are both surprisingly efficient.
