Who is using Cockpit View or Flight Screen for flights?

Who of you is using the cockpit view mode for flights?

Until now I’ve been using the flight screen mode (most left option) because I had the feeling I don’t see enough, where I am going. When taking off and I rotate, I feel like I don’t see enough when I drift off by wind shear.
The Cockpit View is beautiful in the A350 and it looks much more realistic, so I started to train flying that way.

Do you use full HUD then, or only the mini map?
How do you guys fly?

I use cockpit view with full HUD for most of my flights, sans a few seconds on the external drone to see outside the plane.

Cockpit view all the time. Realism is very important to me, even when it results in less perfect landings. The only exception is the F18 because we lack the HUD in the front panel.

yes, especially when approaching and landing, I like staying in cockpit and land manually, watching PFD for riferiment. Among the aircrafts I often fly with, the only exception is B789 which doesn’t have available cockpit displays. It’s challenging but also fun without the fpv.
But when on the ground I will check around with normal view mode and taxi, in cockpit it’s hard to align the lines for me lol

That’s what I also feel. Especially estimating how far I am from a holding short line.

I use the cockpit view. It’s much more realistic and makes the game more immersive. It’s true that if you’re not used to it and you want to learn, there are few tutorials with the cockpit view. A large majority of them are done with the HUD… You might as well practice alone, you’ll end up learning by doing Touch and Go especially… well, for me, more so.

I usually use HUD but I dont have an HUD in cockpit view I have to zoom in to the live instruments

Indeed, I love in cockpit view especially during pushback, takeoff and landing. Would love to see an animated display on the B787 family.

i love all the technical answers you got! hillarious… everyones a pro here! truth is its whatever view you like! noone else is gonna care, it doesnt make you more or less of a sim pilot, we are all still sim pilots… and dont move!:joy::rofl: So if you like it, or prefer it, use it!

Cockpit view for take-offs and landing. Realism is very important to me. At cruising I often put on wing view

Hand fly to cruise, cockpit view, no HUD, then over to the interior drone in cruise and descent. Back to cockpit as I complete the arrival, approach, landing (also no HUD unless I’m flying the 717, 747, or MD-11)

I try landing in scenic view to get a real good look at how my aircraft is looking on flare.

HUD view. I never use the cockpit view since you can’t interact with anything in it. Realism ain’t an issue when I have access to a full interior 737-800 Pac Sim at my college

Always cockpit. If the instruments are not live, then hud and cockpit.

Cockpit view is not only more realistic, but you also have a much better idea of how good the landing was on touchdown, because of how much the camera wobbles.

Kinda forced to use the HUD for 2 reasons:

  1. I use my phone so i cant see the instruments at all
  2. I cant feel what the aircraft is doing so i have a disconnect. I cant see when the plane is sinking/veering off course

I alternate now and then. It’s nice to have both. They complement each other.

Cockpit view gives you some interesting final approach sensations, plus you can zoom quickly to spot the runway location when it’s a bit far off in the distance.

It’s frustrating in cockpit view sometimes though when you’re in the flare or some such critical moment, and you swipe the view down to your feet by accident. It would be nice to have a quick view-lock maybe.

“Flight Screen” gives stable precision, and it is still the more frequent go to though - easier to get smooth landing, especially with a crosswind.

I never think too much about loss of realism. Having both is making the best of a handheld device to simulate the environment of flight.

And with cockpit view you can set up the feel of what you see in irl or in a video of someone flying an approach in the cockpit.

It’s like being able to balance sensation vs precision immersion.
