I believe the KC-10 itself can also be refueled midair. Correct me if I’m wrong, though.

I’m not sure you are understanding. The A350-900 can’t be refuelled in-air.

You can’t refill in air
Yes you can, the KC-10 Extender livery on the DC-10F has a boom arm that you can lower, and other aircraft can fly near it to refuel.

You can only refuel certain aircraft though - only fighter jets and the VC-25 (if you read up the topic you will notice OP was enquiring about refuelling the A350.
