Which view do you regularly use when flying? (A320/350)

I don’t know whether to leave it here in #general or to recategorize it under #live. Anyway.

I thought it would be interesting to collect views(pun intended?) on which view you prefer between the cockpit view and the HUD view.

With EasyJet being featured yesterday, I decided to take their A320 on a spin and did LPL-BOD-NCE-IBZ-BRS entirely on the cockpit view with the only exception being the VOR departure out of Nice which required me to use the HUD(While still in cockpit view). Besides getting quite a bit of XP, more landings and exploring new airports(except NCE), it also gave me a chance to improve on my cockpit view skills.

I compiled some polls below to enable I as a well as the rest of the community see and compare this we fly the A320/350 series.

  • Cockpit view
  • HUD view

For those who use HUD view, I have included an option on the flight path vector(the small circle that is centralised on the screen while airborne in HUD view).

  • FPV on
  • FPV off

Any comments regarding this topic are welcome.

The polls here refer to the usage of the above features in VFR conditions

Cockpit view for me all the way! I used to fly cockpit view with HUD and FPV, and it definitely takes time to get used to the live instruments, but it’s just a really great way to fly, and the most realistic option in my opinion as well.

Sadly it’s missing a second VOR capability amongst other things though, but it’s still a joy to fly in cockpit view in my opinion!

Cockpit view always! However, I can’t land With the live cockpit without an FPV. It’s for me personally impossible, as I can’t predict the flare.

Hey! Feel free to post all the polls you want in this topic: Would You Rather: IF Edition :)

I don’t believe it belongs there as it’s a question rather than the would you rathers

This isn’t more of a would you rather question. I’m just trying to collect views regarding the way other pilots operate in the sim ;)

A good sub for the FPV is to use the runway itself for visual guidance(works well in standard approaches). For flaring, when properly aligned, I follow the callouts. I usually begin my flare at 20 feet.

A350 more and more cockpit view and practicing landing on ILS without HUD but any other aircraft mostly non-cockpit HUD view

I rely on HUD way too much and need to adjust to the feeling of the cockpit view. It seems to provide quite a different perspective when taxiing and landing.

Cockpit because I am used to that IRL it also makes me see centerline better

I fly with live cockpit if there is the option :)
You need more skill to land with crosswind for example !

I used to use HUD mode, but now I use the Cockpit view without the HUD for all aircraft, I use the bottom bar for speed, my landings aren’t as smooth but it feels more realistic!

Once I have taken off and am up to cruising altitude I switch to Captain’s view with no VC and no HUD because I would rather watch the scenery than the cockpit.

For the A350, if often go to “nose” view.

On all aircrafts I often use the HUD view from take off untill I reach the crusing point then put it Back to cockpit view.

I also use the HUD for descending untill I’m at gate.
