The other day, I was sitting on the ground at KLAX, when ATC was active. I requested pushback, and was waiting for a response. The frequency was not very busy (only a few aircraft on the ground at ATC), and the controller seemed to only be controlling ground and ATIS (someone else was doing tower). I was the only aircraft at my concourse, so there wouldn’t be any conflicting traffic. After about 8 minutes of waiting, I resent the pushback request. I know pilots aren’t supposed to send duplicate requests, but what if a controller simply misses your message? How long should we wait?
Use your discretion. If ATC stoped sending messages for a bit, it’s pretty obvious they have forgotten. No real set time, so just be aware.
Hello @Mort,
The controller usually does not miss any messages as controllers get a popup for every message. Controllere are givenxx seconds to respond if they fail to they get kicked from the server.
The reason in your ccenario is due to network issues on the controllers or your end where the message was not relayed to the controller.
On a side note. If you do not get any response from the controller for 2-3 minutes. You can resend a request but it may be due to network conditions which the messages will not be relaying.
I always suggest checking your network connection before flying. Especially when flying to hubs and crowded airspaces.
I wondered that during the exchange. When I checked, everything was great. I had no ATC issues at my destination airport (KLAS).
Then maybe the Controller at KLAX had an internet problem. You can message him and ask
