When to flag and when not to flag posts?

I haven’t interfered much with the flagged posts here, and just observed for the most part. It seems that a lot of comments or posts get flagged for some pretty ticky tack, or petty reasons.
We can’t really expect a community of people from so many diverse cultures and regions to always agree with each other. Just because somebody posts a comment, or reply that doesn’t sit well with the reader, it doesn’t mean it should be flagged.

Before you hit the “Flag” button take a deep breathe and ask yourself; is the post in question offensive, vulgar, racist, or otherwise clearly inappropriate and far off topic?
If the answer is yes to any of those, then by all means please “Flag” it.
If no, then there is no need to “Flag” anything.
Remember just because it seems a little off putting, or just generally disagreeable it doesn’t justify a “Flag”.
Difference of opinion is not cause for a flag.

Really the best thing to do is to ignore posts, opinions you don’t like, and only “Flag” if it is clearly against the spirit of the community, or harmful. Just respect each other and avoid arguments.

What happened to “when in doubt, flag”?

This is just a refinement of the guidelines. I think the key message here is to avoid using flagging to disagree or just to punish someone (even if that person has been trolling in other thread). A flag should be used for comments that are clearly off topic or inappropriate.

For things that are borderline, it turns out that ignoring is the best policy there. Flags could actually bring more attention to a so-so post that would have died on its own.

This sort of post would certainly trigger flagging, this forum is not about finding out who’s right and wrong. If you don’t fully agree with someone in infinite-flight topic just explain why you don’t agree or stay away, but why being provocative and also replying is not compulsory just leave it if don’t have answer to the questions being asked. This forum just for Infinite-Flight. I was trying to keep away from this sort of discussion but this thing keep going on and on.
