When’s the right time to ask a pilot for a trading card?

I think the best times are before or after departure right? I was planning to ask a few weeks ago but never got the chance to as when i was boarding we needed to rush and when we got off the pilots were out of the aircraft already. So is there anyway to get it easier? Or is it just by luck.

I’d ask after the flight during deplaning, that’s usually good.

I’ve never flown on an airline that gives out trading cards (got Breeze points tho so we’ll see sometime…), but I would guess that you could ask the cabin crew as well. They could then relay your message to the pilots at some point and then you wouldn’t have to worry solely about trying to catch the pilots on the way out. I’m sure that if you asked politely and showed some form of interest in the cards, they’d be willing to at least get some info from the flight deck about if they have cards or not.

That all being said, sometimes it just doesn’t work out. Moreover, I feel that if you aren’t too rushed while boarding, that’s a pretty simple time to ask.

I always try and talk to the pilots in the airport terminal (if they’re there and don’t look busy, of course). I’ve once walked a few gates and collected like 3 trading cards from 3 different pilots (at MSP). If you don’t do that, ask the FAs on boarding. They might tell you to go on up, or check back when you land.
