When can planespotting competitions be permitted again?

So it has been a while since we last seen a planespotting competition and I’m wondering how long this will remain for?

I have no problem keeping screenshot competitions banned but what about planespotting competitions? What’s keeping them locked behind doors?

I’m not trying to create a riot or protest against the moderators and community guidelines but how many of you agree with this topic?

  • All competitions shall remain banned.
  • Planespotting competitions shall be allowed with limited threads permitted per year.

Maybe to ensure quality, only let participants who have a track record of decent photos on IFC? I guess it is a bit exclusive but many topics have been closed to to poor quality, not just in spotting.

We’ve had plane spotting competitions before. I didn’t know that they were currently banned, but if they are, that would probably be because a lot of young new users decided to hold their own and they were often full of crappy photos, terrible quality, and general disorder and chaos. But some successful ones every year are put on by @AndrewWu and some other high quality spotters.

I haven’t given up hope entirely but I also recognize that we probably won’t have user-led ones ever again.

So they are officially banned?

More or less yeah. Less obviously than the screenshot ones, but it for the same reasons afaik.

Yes they are officially banned since I think mid December of last year. Last I heard they would “consider having staff-led ones” but that’s probably PR speak.

There are currently no plans to change this.
