depends on your weight. if ur on the heavier side, aim for a lower cruise altitude
also in IFR aircraft, you should not be cruising at intervals of 500

My common altitude is 30-32000ft
On average probably 35000-36000ft depending on the direction
I was thinking that you meant “which flight routes do you often fly to and therefore what’s your common cruising altitude?” so I had these answers in my mind:
- For 7 years straight 36000 West/ 37000 East (WADD - WIII - WADD daily
) - also irl at that same route + altitude every couple months. In IF its my go-to stress reliever
Then I joined a VA so now its:
- 40000 West/ 41000 East long haul and 38000 West/ 39000 East regular company flights. (Of course, altitude follows Simbrief with weather and climate reports but the above is what I usually get).
I still fly that FL360/370 irl today but missed piloting it in IF so much, the scenery and approach always amazing! ![]()
…but what can I do, my VA don’t have that route’s codeshare atm and I won’t fly without getting paid!
(with leaderboard hours lol).
Mainly depends on how heavy the aircraft is, how long the flight is and the aircraft type. If I were to fly an A320 on a two hour flight it would be around 33000 - 39000ft, and if the 737 was light, I might go up to 40000ft.
Really depends on how GOOD the airplane is. If I’m in a normal plane like the E175, E190, DC-10, Md-11, the 777s, CL35, or the NGs, I’ll be from 29,000 - 47,000 feet so commonly 38,000 and thst aligns with my ferry flights. Any planes like the a320 family, 737 MAX 8, A330s, A380, or B747, I’ll fly from 40,000 minimum - 60,000 feet maximum
.
45,000ft Challenger 350
Flew form LAX to DUB in the a333 started at FL330 and finally up to FL370.
I’d assume FL360/370, since I usually step climb before heading in for the night (likely 6-8 hours at those altitudes)
most flights: 35000 step climbing to 37000-39000 in some cases
Longer flights 33000-37000, step climbing the whole time.
On larger planes such as the 787,777, and A350, I start at FL370 and usually end up at FL390, for smaller planes that are used on shorter routes, I climb to anywhere from FL320 to FL360. For planes like the A380 and the 747(If I will ever fly it) I climb to FL350 first and climb up from there. Since the A330 has really bad climb performance, I go up to FL340.
I NEVER cruise anywhere below FL320.
I normally cruise between 350 to 370 since I mostly do long haul flights, but that also depends on the current weight of my aircraft
