What Will My Consequences Be For Making Such A Silly Mistake?
Here I am, I have finally reached 40,000 XP to be able to fly on the expert server in this wonderful IOS flight simulator. I had just started my third flight on the server ever with the Airbus A340 in Brussels. I have never flown at that airport before and I must admit that this was a very silly mistake on my part. I hadn’t actually realized my mistake until now with this screenshot backing it up but it is quite the confusing moment to take note of for the future.
So there I was in the centre of the two hold short lines for runway 20 and 25R at Brussels. I requested to take off and was approved for takeoff on runway 25R. I was quite unaware of the situation and lined up for runway 20 right after being approved for take off on 25R. I had noticed a Boeing 787 quite close on final which I thought was odd for the ATC to approve me for take off without requesting an immediate take off but I ligned up and started pushing the throttles all the way up when I had gotten the notification that I had been reported by the current tower ATC.
This is quite an upsetting newbie mistake that I quite regret and at this point I am just wondering how long it will take before I am able to fly on the expert server again? When I go on to the server at the current moment I receive the notification that I must be grade 3 to fly on the server as explained in this screenshot below. How long will this last for?
Sorry for the inconvenience to the ATC and Boeing 787 pilot on final as I must admit that this was quite a foolish mistake. If anyone knows the consequences of my actions please do let me know. Take care.
The ghosting will fall off after 7 days and you should be back to Grade 3. Grades 3 through 5 require no ghostings within the last 7 days. Learn from it and carry on good sir!
Good lesson to always plan your flight. Bring the chart up prior to taxi, look over it, be aware of those runway incursion hotspots, bearings, runway headings etc.
Learn from it, You’ll be a better pilot in the future because of this mistake!
All of us do mistakes
But you have to know that this server is something different than the TS1
Here you should fly by the book and i advise you to take look on tutorials it will help you alot before getting ghosted for another reason youre bot aware off
Believe me i have 300hrs and grade 5 and i still go there to the tutorials and refresh my memory every couple of months
Thanks greatly. I will for sure be checking out the tutorials this week while I am ghosted. Maybe I’ll be able to see you flying some time next week, but do remember to watch out for me while you’re landing on runway 20 at Brussels. (Just for laughs). Take care.
I have to admit that sometimes it’s hard to differ between Runway 20 and Runway 25L. Someone also had experienced it earlier today. I was also ghosted once due to this very fatal mistake. Now, I will crosscheck the runway first on the map before entering the runway. So it will reduce the possibilty of entering the wrong runway.
This fatal mistake also happens in real life and ended up in disaster. Like SQ006 as an example
You requested to taxi to runway 25R but instead you taxi’d to runway 20… Then for some reason you requested takeoff at runway 25R even though you were at runway 20 yet ATC still cleared you for takeoff at runway 25R even though you were at runway 20, ATC also made the mistake of clearing you for takeoff when a 787 was literally just about to land… The fact that that ATC is on expert server worries me!
@Darth_Sidious The same taxiway feeds both runways. The hold lines are almost in identical places as well. No LUAW instruction was given so the aircraft was cleared for takeoff while on the taxiway. Another person on here made the same mistake today of entering runway 20 instead of 25R. I’m obviously not IFATC, nor have reached Grade 3 yet, so take my opinions with whatever grains of salt you want to. At the end of the day it’s your aircraft and you’re at the controls. I think it’s up to the pilot to navigate an airport safely especially without controllers being able to give specific directions.
My countermeasure for this is having foreflight up on a 2nd tablet with the airport diagram overlayed on the map to show my real-time position at an airport. Of course there are countless online resources to get airport diagrams and other charts for free. But in this situation, the controller really wont know which way an aircraft will turn (right and entering 20 or left and entering 25R) until it’s too late to stop them as once an aircraft is over the hold line the runway is occupied. So in this particular scenario, I can’t see the ATC being at fault. Pilots share a responsibility in paying attention too. Especially with a landing aircraft that close to the runway and the instructions not including “immediate takeoff” that would’ve alerted me to double check my position or intended direction of turn.
In my particular case I’ve flown to EBBR so many times that I don’t get confused, but it is a very human mistake. As said above, you will just have to deal with it, and learn so that you don’t make a mistake again ;)
I’ve also been ghosted for a stupid reason, but I learned from it.
