What was I supposed to do

So yesterday, I got a Level 2 violation at Athens. I’m not writing this topic because I want it removed. I want to know why I got it. So approach was giving me headings and said that I should expect the ILS approach on runway 03R. But as a noob like me, when I approached the runway from the side, I didn’t change my heading and drifted off. I think what happened is that I thought I was supposed to be told to enter the approach on runway 03R. But I didn’t because I didn’t get any instructions from Approach. So I think what I was supposed to do is when I approached Runway 03R, I should’ve changed my heading to the runway heading. Can you guys clarify this for me?
Thanks!

Hey!

Can you give me the name of your controller? They’ll be the best person to help explain.

It was @Guxk.
I PM him but he hasn’t replied back to me yet.

He should be the one to explain. Just be patient and wait for a response please.

Thanks!

How long ago did you PM him?

He asked what my callsign was and I gave it to him. That was about 18 hours ago

I would give up about 2 days + before making a post, IFATC are volunteers and do have lives. Perhaps he is just trying to find the part in his replay.

Cign :)

I don’t want to be off topic, but why are all report cases handled via PM? What’s wrong with handling them publicly? People might learn something from someone else if the report is handled publicly.

There’s no reason for anyone else to be involved with the personal discussion between two controllers. Chances are the mistake they’ve made is already addressed in a tutorial thread.

Okay. Thanks! I do understand that they do have regular lives like you and me and I respect what they do. This hasn’t really happened to me before, so I don’t know how to react as well as other people.

I made this topic because I wanted to see if anyone else could tell me what to do. You know, some tips so I don’t get more violations. I apologize if i’m being annoying or bugging anyone.

No worries at all, I understand it’s all a learning experience and it can be frustrating at times. We’ve all been in your shoes before.

I’d wait for Guxk to get back to you first, he’s a great guy when it comes to controlling and a great mentor.

Okay. I just want to learn from this experience and be a better pilot so I’m not a nuisance to other pilots. Thank you!

Moved to PM.
