Hey so I was on training server and flying at 13,000 feet and SoCal approach told me to turn heading 250 and to lower down to 10,000 feet but if I did I would hit the mountains since I was flying near Palm Springs, and if I turned heading 250 it would blow me off course. I think the pilot was just trolling me . I know it’s training server and there’s nothing you could do about it and literally anyone can be ATC on training. Just say it was on expert and they told me to do the exact same thing should I say unable or follow there instruction and just do it so I don’t get ghosted ? Thanks :)
You’d say unable in this case. Approach on expert gets tested for ground awareness, so this shouldn’t happen there. And if you do get those instructions on expert you’d say unable. If you were to get ghosted for some reason take a screenshot and contact an atc mod and they’ll reverse the ghost if they see you did nothing wrong :)
I was just flying to palm springs 2. I made a flightplan around the mountians and palm springs center told me to fly through the mountians. :)
You do what they say :)
What? You allow them to let you crash into mountains?
@MaxSez: @Brandon_Sandstrom you know I disagree with this statement vehemently. What’s wrong with a circuitous route. Pilots discretion, Filed…
Splane it to me?
@Gman…MaxSez… Training Server is for everybody. The Controllers are learning to. In your case “unable” would be correct. On Expert one can expect the Controller to check your flight plan and leave you alone until close in then if your flying heavy junk, vector you to the ILS intercept point of the active runway at your destination.
The comm menu is not Pilot Friendly. As you become more savvy with the system you’ll learn to get around an aggressive arrogant or trainee Approach Controller. Just watch, listen and learn,
Palm Springs 10,000ft? The mountains are not that high are they?
It’s training server %99.99 of the time the atc is a moron
@Maxmustang @HairlineAirlines sure say unable that’s fine. What he isn’t giving us is his location on being asked this though. PSP is mountainous all around. If you look at the approach plates they all bring you over the airport and have you do a 360 down to altitude. Which is what’s going to have to happen in any case at this airport. So just because someone vectored you toward a mountain doesn’t mean they don’t have a plan for bringing you around full circle. This is a training server and if approach doesn’t crash a few planes into mountains trying to master approach. They are doing something wrong.
MaxSez: Oh my! Typical IF Tough Love Philosophy. Pavlov’s theory at its best. Let’s all die trying… LOL. (Who lov’s ya Bran.)
On training servers just do your best with what you have to work with. As it was stated everyone is learning on training, including the controllers. I would hesitate to think that you’re being trolled during a situation like this, not that it’s not possible, it very much is. When I started learning control I’m sure that some senior pilots thought I was a troll as well. “Unable” is a very good way to express that either your aircraft or mother nature won’t let you execute the commanded maneuver. I’ve also been vectored so far off of my flight plan, so far to the point that I thought either I’d been abandoned or they were just messing with me. After a LOT of patience they did end up getting me to my destination. Lesson learned for me.
