As you all know this August the A230 family got a rework with live instruments and the option to ether sit in the left ( captain’s seat or right (first officer’s seat) so I was wondering what side do you like to fly on?
I like to fly more on the left side since on the other side I feel weird
Give me like if you agree with me
I’m used to the captains (left) seat. And I like and want to fly there.
I switch from side to side during a flight to add some realism into my flights because IRL the pilots share the flying
In real life, do pilots change seats? Or what did you mean?
Typically one pilot does the takeoff and one does the landing. They do not switch seats but in IF you have to because you are only one pilot and can not sit in two different seats at once.
That is what I understand
Pilot Flying and Pilot monitoring
except i can
You can? We are talking about real life! Obviously in the simulator if you can
Cough cough, winter.
I personally prefer the first officer view.
Incorrect. From what I’ve heard from pilots for:
- Delta
- KLM
- American
- JetBlue
- British Airways
They alternate between pilot flying and pilot monitoring.
Pilot flying flies,
Pilot monitoring does ATC and other jazzy stuff.
They alternate. So say they have a flight to ATL and back, one will fly the leg down to ATL and the other will fly the return.
They never change seats.
I’m joking…
Let me rephrase this as clearly it is not being interpreted as I had hoped. From what I have heard a lot of pilots like to trade off and one pilot will do the landing and one pilot will do the takeoff. The way that I interpreted @NathanD’s post is that he may do the takeoff in the captain’s view and the landing in the FO view. Simulating what happens in real life Most of the time.
Let me know if this needs further clarification…
Yes you stated my intentions very well
When they reworked it I started to sit in the FO’s seat, but… let’s just say it didn’t work out.
No, once again. The pilot who takes off will be the same one who lands (unless it is a captains only landing)
Okay, although I disagree with you as I have heard from Metour Pilot and Captain Joe information that backs up my statement I made in both of my posts. I am willing to agree to disagree. This topic is not a discussion about real world procedures. Furthermore, I was able to successfully backup @NathanD’s statement which was my goal.
Any further arguments can be taken to PM as this is getting off topic.
Well, it depends.
When I’m in IF, then left. When I’m in an Airbus, I’d prefer the right seat because the side stick is on my stronger hand.
But that’s not how it works 😂
@Will_A is correct. Most commercial flights involve a pilot monitoring and a pilot flying; one pilot will take off and land on the same flight. If two pilots are doing a leg together, they may switch roles and the pilot previously doing takeoffs and landings may choose to monitor this time.
In my personal opinion, I prefer the left seat. It just feels more natural honestly.
I almost exclusively fly in the first officer seat now.
