I haven’t really experience a hard long haul flight yet because I’ve been flying domestic recently but I wanted to hear it from you guys? What’s your hardest long haul flight that you’ve experienced?
Auckland to Hoi Chi Minh city as I mistimed flight and had to land at 1 at night (my time) so it was tough to land tired.
With proper planning, no long haul is too difficult.
Unless your me & you don’t plan, and your forced to wake up early in the morning to land.
EHAM to KLAX there was ferry strong winst like 141knt and heavy turbelence! I was in the night awake so I dont get violations! I was so tired at landing.
Completed a PHNL-NZAA leg recently as part of my round the world cargo flight. Hardest part of it was just 8hrs of water, only saw land 5mins from landing!
However best leg was KORD -PHNL which I combined with sunrise approach to the Hawaiian islands. Stunning
RKSI-KSFO mis timed it terribly and had to land at 3am my time
Hey Guys!
I am about to start my first long haul flight from Frankfurt (EDDF) to Los Angeles (KLAX).
I am flying the Lufthansa route DLH456 with the A380.

Do you have any tips before I take off?
545 souls on board and 18,114kg/39,935libs cargo. I have 220,621kg/486,386libs fuel with me and I hope I calculated everything right.
Distance to the destination is 5142 nm and my cruising altitude is FL350.
See you in the sky! Callsign is Lufthansa 420.
NZAA-Santiago
This is when global was just release and I did an overnighted. The autopilot stuffed up and I was low on fuel. A\P disengaged and I got quite a few violations. There were strong headwinds, I considered diverting to Antarctica but the game crashed
KLAX to VHHH. Most of it at night and was up until 0300 because I failed to plan right. Lesson learned.
Ones without @MishaCamp means I’ll have to do the FPL with SID/STARs and fuel. So lazy
Hardest was definitely YSSY-EGLL, but diverted to EGSS. I pushed the 789 to the limits. Departed with full fuel, and ended up with this:
Why leave the SID/STARs out of the flight @MishaCamp? C’mon! Charts make everything better! 😂
Probably KDFW-EGLL. An alert poped up and my flight was “delayed” by two hours. So I had to land in the backseat of my car, while moving. Probably my worst landing (usually fly w/ joystick, but had to handfly).
You could probably try doing this in the 787-8. I managed to do NZAA-EGCC in 21hrs+ non-stop. Payload was around 120 passengers, no cargo loaded except baggage allowance. Followed the flight plan generated from simbrief.
My around the world flight in the KC10. Had to coordinate the meet ups over land areas that I would have a low fuel amount and make sure I would have the amount for the next leg. Then add the full hand flying for an hour while the massive fuel tank for the KC10 fills up. And then having one of the fill ups be at 3am at night. Hard stuff. With the tail wind long haul duration flights all I have to do is use Windy.com to predict where the strongest tailwinds will be then choose the correct aircraft. Both are fun and long hauls are fun if you want to take a breather for a few hours when you are at cruise.
KEWR-LGAV Overshot the airport
nice view. have a good experience flying
that sounds really fun! I have flown plentyof Tanker missions, but only as a Tanker refueling Fighters, not done AAR with a fellow tanker yet!
KLAX-YSSY was hard for me because I started around 10pm and landed around 1pm. I had to carry my phone with me everywhere I went and it started getting hot after a while 😂
It is really hard because the amount of time to go from 20% fuel to full is 1 hour and handflying that long in a formation is difficult even if it is in one single line
