What’s It Like Being On a Long Haul?

Long haul is terrible if you are flying Economy I’m 6.2 so my knees get really sore after a while being pushed up onto the seat in front and I hate people who kick my seat it happens to me all the time just my luck. Anyways the breakfast burrito I got the next morning it’s out of date was 2022 I couldn’t imagine what was in it plane food sucks anyways this was back in August last year save up if you want a good experience because Economy is Kak that’s just my experience.

Ah long hauls. i get to fly all of them in economy so i usually just have a mixture of things to do. ill usually do the IFE, enjoy the meal or snack service, talk to my family and than go i went to go hangout in the back for a few hours talking to the flight attendents

I fly long haul a couple times a year, mostly between my hometown (Chicago) and Europe. The best part about long hauls is the anticipation of being in a new place with a different culture. The IFE is usually pretty good, and the meal services are good. This year, I was lucky enough to be upgraded to business class onboard the 747-8 with Lufthansa. That is a whole different experience, and if you have the chance, I would take it. Any long haul is great for me!

I always look forward to a long haul flight, and have been on some ultra long hauls including Hong Kong to New York and Singapore to New York! For my flight from Hong Kong to New York, I was upgraded to Premium economy which was great, I was able to sleep for about 8 hours of the 19 hour flight! I normally wake up for the meal service, watch a movie while eating, and then take a sleep till the next meal service xD. However, while I was returning from Hong Kong to Singapore, I was flying economy and I was only able to get around 4 or 5 hours of sleep, so I ended up just watching LOTS of movies and eating LOTS of cup noodles. When I was flying Singapore to NYC (Via EDDF) it was great as we were booked premium economy both ways, and had lounge access due to my dad’s solitaire membership. On that flight, I slept for about 8 hours and the rest were movies or looking out the window. I actually would say I preferred the flight with the stopover as it allows you to stretch your legs, grab a proper bite to eat (in this case me and my dad were allowed into the Lufthansa lounge)! That’s my experience of long hauls and overall, they’re really fun for an avgeek like my self!

It’s basically sleeping and waking up eating. Sleeping. Then you wake up and your there. Nothing much, goes by faster than you think. Longest flight for me was 18 hours. (Don’t sleep before you fly though. Get tired before the flight so you can sleep

The longest flight I’ve been on was a JAL flight to Dallas from Narita. The thing on long hauls is you have not much to do, I usually watch like 5 movies then sleep a couple hours on a good 11 hour flight =)

its very long but it is fun because you can see the world also its kinda comfortable because that is when you watch Netflix for a long time! :)

It’s lovely, on the way to your destination you are excited for what lays ahead. On the way back you can think about home. I love sleeping on an airplane so I can hit the ground running.

Not to get off-topic or anything, but the 3 types of configurations for Emirates’ A380s’ is either a First and Business on the top with Economy on the bottom, First and Business on the top with Economy on the bottom again, and Economy and Business on the top with Economy being in the very front of the plane. This is because the bar on board is at the back of the plane.

Aside from that, I fly long haul every year to India in Business class and usually, it is fine. I do still fly Economy to all other places I go but the trip is usually 20 hours ( Including stopover timings ). Other than that, I flew to London for Thanksgiving in Economy and I have never actually had a bad experience. I usually fly with United and the worst thing that has probably happened to me, was getting kicked off the flight due to an overbooked flight ( Not while I was on board ). Of course though, I got $1500 for myself and my dad got another $1500, so it worked out fine. The entertainment for a lot of airlines on their long haul aircraft is pretty good and if you get bored but are willing to pay some money, you can always purchase WiFi and do whatever you want.
