What made your aviation interest take off?

Hello IFC a question that has been on my mind; what is the story that sparked everyone’s interest in aviation? I created this post for those who would like to share their story of what sparked their interest in aviation from personal experiences etc. Mods if this post is not in the proper category please move it to correct category thank you!

My aviation interest started when I took my first ever flight to Orlando on Southwest. I didn’t really know I wanted to be a pilot until just a few months ago, when i took a flight to Vegas. This is when I really started to get involved with Infinite Flight and other aviation related things, such as spotting :)

That’s actually awesome mine started when my dad did a discovery flight out of KTTD in a Cessna 172 I did the same discovery flight 2 years later and from then on I knew my aviation interest took off but started when I saw the queen of the skies on approach to PDX one day

That flight…that one flight you take and thus began the curiosity. #proudavgeek

Mine started on my first flight in a Dreamliner. I got to go inside the flight deck and it was really fun. After that I started to watch more aviation stuff on YouTube, and then I got a flight sim! That’s why the Dreamliner is my favorite plane, it helped me take off into the world of aviation! :)

Me too! I’ve always thought “one day, I’ll be able to go down onto the ramp, get some little stairs, and put my hand on the nose of it”

Due to my extended family living several states away, I’ve always taken several flights a year to visit them. I’ve been interested in a aviation ever since I can remember. Great topic!

My discovery flight is where my callsign came from the 172 I flew had the registered number N705AR

That’s pretty cool. I fly on Southwest a lot so it is one of my favorite airlines

I live in Wisconsin and Milwaukee is a “focus city” for Southwest so there is tons of flights from SWA coming in and out all the time.

What I used to think of aviation, what I did when I first fell in love with it, and what I think of it now is what powers my spirit. What motivates me is that spirit, that spirit of being able to move in the most incredible way in the world. Think about it, you are moving hundreds of miles and hour tens of thousands of feet in the sky, in a enchanted beautiful sky beast called an airplane. What’s not to like? Some people think that’s scary, some people think it’s cool, and some thinks it so cool that they fall in love with it, and those people will forever think of aviation as one of the most incredible concepts in the world. They may even make it a career, a way of life.

To sum it up. If you are feeling unmotivated, think back to your most aviation spirit you have ever felt. Think about what was going through your mind at the time. For me that was June of 2017. I had just walked into the terminal at my home airport KMSO early in the morning to catch a flight to Denver. I had been there several times before but not for a while. I walked through the door glanced down the extent of terminal, and a Captain and his FO walked past me. We then checked in and went through security and as soon as I looked through the windows and out onto the tarmac and saw our plane, something happened that I had never felt once.

That was the planting of the seed. My first rush of the spirit of aviation. So just think and remember why you love aviation. If you truly have the seed, that spirit won’t be hard to find.

I fly out of Midway for Southwest. If the winds are right a STAR is right over my house. The airplanes are at 2,000 to 3,000 feet

My house is right under the approach for 28L and 28R at PDX so when those runways are in use I see every plane on approach at 2,000 to 3,000 feet
