What is ‘Transition Altitude’

Hi all!
Quick question what does it mean when a pilot requests a transition and ATC replies with ‘transition approved at XXXXft’ I’ve always wondered but never knew.
Thanks :)

Usually you take the airport altitude and add 2,500 feet. That’s how you get your transition altitude and you typically transition when your flight plan takes your directly over your arrival airport.

Its exactly as above said but i beg u to follow the ‘airport height plus 2500 ft’ formula and not request transition at 30 000 feet 🥲
