Hi everyone! I was looking through some old things I have from when I traveled to Washington D.C. in 2018 and I found this old thing. I was intrigued by it and decided to take a closer look—to me it looks like some kind of American airlines flight log—but I just can’t really tell what all of it means. I know it’s from Miami; I don’t remember where in KMIA or how I got it but I do remember that I was traveling on American Airlines Flight 1757 from Miami to Dulles, and it was March 24, 2018. Any help?
As a data guy - this is very interesting…
Columns of numbers and letters. Yes please and thank you.
Do your best work sir. I can send the rest of the rows if you’d like, too.
No its fine. I was just saying its the sort of thing I like looking at in my spare time.
Oh nice. There’s some kind of key at the bottom though
This is an RGG, which lists the arriving and departing flights out of an airport (in this case, Miami). The text at the top signifies that this is a listing of all flights out of terminal D; however, the gate column on the far right includes some E gates. I’m not knowledgable on Miami operations but maybe some E gates are located within terminal D. The date is also listed as 24 MAR, which makes sense considering when you flew. I’d say this document could be found at the desk prior to boarding the aircraft - maybe you picked it up there?
On the left side are the arriving flights (see ‘ARV-FLT’) and on the right side are the departing flights (see ‘DPT-FLT’).
The other columns include ETAs, ETDs, equipment (aircraft) type, and forecasted passenger loads.
EDIT: these appear to all be AA flights - the key on the bottom seems to be AA specific as well. This makes sense considering Terminal D is exclusively for AA.
Well that kind of confuses me then.
I found two lines pretty close to one another that I think could have been my flight.
One of them has my actual flight number (1757) but it’s the wrong gate and destination and all that.
The other has the wrong flight number (2707) but it’s the correct route and gate (MIA-IAD, D24).
Gate assignments constantly change, particularly at a hub airport like KMIA. For a document which was likely printed at the start of a shift (probably prior to 8am), it would likely be incorrect/not up to date later in the day. Your flight departed at 3:35 - I imagine changes would’ve occurred by that time.
Not 100% sure on the flight number but I imagine it would be the same scenario as I just mentioned. I recently flew through the US and noticed that flight numbers were constantly changing and didn’t tend to be allocated solely for one route. A flight from LAX to SFO could have the same flight number as a flight from IAD to MIA, for example.
Ok that makes sense. Again thank you very much, I appreciate it :)
