What is the use of following other player?

Hi guys i am a newbie and i wanna ask the use of following others. I cant chat with them and cant follow their activities on the map lol.

Right now it doesn’t really have a purpose but it will probably be expanded upon in the future.

It doesn’t really do anything but it can be a way to kind of make friends (I think?)

You can use it to show whether they’re online or not. If they are, you may be able to track their flight (or spawn at the airport they’re controlling, if they’re an IFATC controller) and say hi to them. Doesn’t really serve another purpose other than you can view their stats.
