What is the 737MAX9 like?

This summer I’m flying down to Orlando on United’s 737MAX9. I was supposed to fly on Delta’s A321Neo but our flight got cancelled so my mom switched over to United. I’ve never been on the MAX before so I’m wondering what its like. Is there IFE at all? Simple questions like that. Oh and I’ll be leaving out of LAX. Flight leaves around 2300PST (11:00PM). So again let me know if you have any feedback on United’s MAX9! I’d love to know.

I have not flown on a Max yet but I have heard they are very quiet and I don’t think they have IFE but they are very cool planes!

Only select few Maxes have IFE, I’ve flown some United Maxes and some do and don’t. They’re very comfortable seats though! So you should have a safe, and relaxing flight. Safe journeys!

I’ve flown on UA MAX 9s multiple times, and they are very nice to fly in. As said before, there is IFE only on some MAX 9s. They do offer movies and TV shows on your phone through the United app, and there is WiFi available if you are flying over land, which you are. It is also significantly quieter than United’s other 737 models, and feels much nicer to fly in.

I’ve never flown on United’s MAX, but I have flown the MAX with IcelandAir. Very quiet, comfortable plane. I think @Flyin.Hawaiian had flown on United’s MAX.

I flew from ORD-DEN back in December on a MAX 9. I was in Econ+ and there was IFE as well as personal device entertainment. Wifi was available for purchase. Really comfortable flight, quiet as others have mentioned. Enjoy flying the friendly skies!

If you go on United’s website you can tour (3D View) the MAX 9 to see what the cabin looks like.

It’s one of the quietest planes I’ve been on.

I think the A359 is a bit quieter.

I’ve flown on a ceased airline called Blue Air and they used/had Max 8s and i’m pretty sure it’s not much different to the max 9. The only thing i had a little problem is with space, i’m 6’1 and erm… let’s say my circumference area is pretty big-ish 😂 and at times i was having trouble sitting fine but everyone’s different so it could be just for me.

It was a amazing flight, very quiet and very very comfortable and i’m sure you’ll enjoy it!!!

I’ve not flown on a United MAX 9 but I’ve flown on an Alaska MAX 9. Compared to the previous generation of 737 it’s much more modern feeling, a bit quieter. You’ll probably enjoy it

Right, so I’m gonna consider myself somewhat qualified on the matter, as I’ve flown on both the non-IFE and IFE equipped MAXs in their fleet in the past 9 months. The first flight was ORD-MDH on an IFE equipped MAX-8, and the second flight was ORD-MIA on a non-IFE equipped MAX-9. In terms of the hard product, the seats themselves are relatively identical, and the only notable difference is of course the IFE screen. Although I gotta say, even on the non-IFE screens, the tablet holder is really handy, and if you download some streaming content beforehand, it is a relatively okay replacement for the screen. On the noise side, my MAX-9 flight was right behind the wing, and the noise was minimal even with having a window seat right there. On my MAX-8 flight, I was right in front of the engine, and with the exception of Takeoff and early climb out, the noise was pretty much the same. Im not sure if it was the mood lighting or something else, but when I stepped on the MAX-8 it just seemed fresh and modern, and I liked the overall atmosphere. The MAX-9 still felt relatively new, but just less so, and fell more in place with the current fleet in terms of the atmosphere. In terms of size, I’m 6’ 2” and about 145-150lbs, and I felt the economy seat on the 2:45 flight was adequate, although I think I would be a little less comfortable on a longer flight like you are doing. Meanwhile, the MAX-8, although just an hour on the flight time, I had a non-bulkhead Economy plus seat, and I was extremely satisfied, and was really comfortable, even with a middle seat. Honestly I think I could cross the Atlantic in a seat like that and would be happy, and if you can afford it, especially if you are on the taller side for height, I would highly recommend it. On the service side, this is the same as any United flight, although on my first flight I was given a complimentary Snackbox, and on the second flight I decided to purchase one, and I would say that combined with the normal service of a drink and a snack, I was good on the food and drink side for both the duration of both flights.

Apologies on not having any MAX-9 photos, not really any good shots that I took there. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

I’ve been in the max 9 some have IFEs some don’t but overall they are a little quieter but the engine sounds so much better than the normal 737.

So all United 737 MAX 9’s made 2020-now should feature IFE, but the older ones do t, i was lucky enough to take a newer one in april

This is incorrect. 7501 - 7530 have the Standard Boeing interior. 7531 and newer are equipped with NEXT.

My dad was on N37537 on May 23. EWR-PHX. It was his first flight on a B39M featuring NEXT, and he said it was a world of difference compared to the older B39Ms (Standard Boeing interior) he’s been on.

Can’t speak for United but I have flown on both WestJet and Southwest’s Maxes. It feels solidly like a next-gen aircraft with a deep bellow on startup and plenty of induction noise but quiet otherwise. I’m still not really a fan of the 737 as a whole, and I do prefer the A320 NEO family simply because they feel a little bit more roomy inside as a consequence of being wider.
