i am in the new B777-200ER and i noticed that next to the throttle there is something that says nose DN on top. what is this?

That is your trim value reference (forget the technical name). That tells you what your current elevator trim is with the little white diamond and the whitish green bar is the acceptable take off/ landing trim range. Nose DN means your trim in that direction would push the nose down. Nose UP means it would push the nose up. Decreasing the trim value pushes the nose down. Increasing it pushes it up. In the 777 the trim value is a numerical value that increases by .1. IF has their trim input as a percentage not as a numeric value so there is no go to correspondence on how they equate the two at this moment as the trim setting being displayed is static.
