I know this means you will do what ATC instructed but why isn’t the instruction just repeated as it is when an aircraft is instructed to turn base etc?
Wilco = Will comply, meaning, we received what you said and were gonna do it.
It’s limited to certain applications though, so some things require a full read back instead of a simple “Wilco”.

I’m pretty sure it’s short for “will cooperate” or “will comply”. Either way, it means you have understood and will react according to the instructions.

for example, when ATC ask you exit rwy when you are in 70kt , you should send a"willco",and
continue to slow down until 35kt , then exit rwy.
