What do they mean by 'retard'?

On airliner they have the altitude call outs what do they mean when it says retard.
It goes like this 50,40,30,20,retard,10

It is when the aircraft pulls back the sharpest in preparation to touch the back wheels to the runway first.

That is pretty much it

“Retard” idle engines. Flaring at 10 feet dosent sound right. It reapeats retard retard retard until the throttles are at idle. Retards are only on airbus planes

No it isn’t. Flare starts earlier than that. The retard command relates to the throttles.
