This happened just now during turbulent Tuesday. I took off from Point a Pitre, filed a flight plan crossing over TAPA and I requested a transition. “See help pages for ATC instructions” was the only response. I pulled a 180 and left the airspace to avoid being ghosted by the controller. What in the world did I do wrong here? Someone please reference the log in the picture and help me figure out what went wrong.
what altitude were you at?
I was flying at 18,300
you dont have to request transition above 5000 I think, correct me if I’m wrong :)
Did the Tower controller tell you that?
Correct, the tower and ground controller is labeled as the same person. And as far as the 5,000 foot rule referenced by @Annonymouse115 , I can appreciate an IF ruling on airspace but everything I’ve learned on here states to request transition when passing through active airspace.
With that, until further changes, all airports in IF have a airspace altitude of SF-5,000 feet, meaning above 5,000 feet, you would not need to contact the controller for a transition over the airspace
This is information that I did not know. Honestly this is kind of frustrating. Thank you for passing it on to me. I think a simple “transition approved” would have been much more appropriate. It’s not like I misused ATC after all. In real aviation you absolutely request transitions.
True, but issues arose about the airspaces of airports, so it was removed and this new temporary rule was set into place. Controllers still have the ability to clear a transition up to FL500, but the Check Help Pages was sent in a friendly way, saying you’re doing something wrong or not up-to-date for the Infinite Flight Live Community, check the help pages (Forums) for help to figure it out. Can’t express that tone with Emojis in game ;)
I appreciate what you’re saying, I just can’t get on board with the cheer. Approving the transition and then referencing the check help pages would have been one thing. That would have expressed that at least I wasn’t doing something completely wrong. As you said it’s a temporary rule? Regardless of how I perceived the message, the controller dismissed me and my request all together. ATC does not and should not operate that way. I could be more understanding if the airspace was really busy, but it wasn’t. Rant over for the evening. Thank you again for the new information. My luck I’ll pass over an airspace after the rule has been lifted and get ghosted. :-l
Turbulent Tuesday is a Casual Server Only event.
And to answer your question, 18,000ft is well out of tower’s airspace. There is no need to contact them to request anything (real life or IF). At that altitude, center or approach would handle any transition.
Thank you for this info.
Hi. I understand your point, but I do not think this should be encouraged. Otherwise, you will have other pilots quoting this occurrence to support their case, then it will eventually lead to more debates and breaking of rules. I rather suggest that you appreciate this discussion as an improvement to your knowledge base, at least in IF, and be an advocate to ensuring that rules should be followed. Your real life knowledge will also become handy in a form of tutorials as I see you are a flight student.
Just my 2 cents worth, bro. No hard feelings. Thanks
It’s kinda difficult to help someone who doesn’t care to be helped. We are all explaining that you asked for a transition by about 13,500ft too high. At or below 5000 is all you need. Even in the states, at or below 10,000ft (class bravos) is the highest a terminal airspace would ever go.
Simply take the feedback and use it for next time.
You are around FL180. You do not need to request a transition above 5000 ft MSL.
In real world aviation, you would not absolutely request a transition at 18300. You would be communicating with Center already at that altitude. I don’t understand why you think this is so frustrating. This is more frustrating for a controller as it creates unnecessary chatter on the frequency. Honestly, I would have sent you the “check help pages” as well.
