Continuing the discussion from Community Poll: 767 vs 787 Results!:
Well, we now know the 787-9 won. Let’s look at some of the things that could be fixed on the aircraft:
- Faulty AoA - the 787’s AoA is higher than it needs to be for its weight. This instance shows it at 2 degrees [flickering between 2 and 3 degrees on my end (2.5 degrees)] while at FL350 with 28% load. This should be much lower so you can actually maintain this AoA at FL410 or 430.
- No live cockpit - one of the arguments for the 787 rework was the no live cockpit. This could make the difference for cockpit users like me who like to see where they should spool the engines, guage exact n1 %, see proper AoA, etc.
- Different engine sounds - I don’t know if anyone brought this up in the 787 argument, but those 737 sounds are not a great fit for the 787. If I had to guess, they would use the 777 engine sounds. I believe they both use similar engines, no?
- Better exterior model and a modeled interior - I believe this plane will most likely have higher polygon counts, smoother wing surfaces, slightly better landing gears, modeled windows, slightly better cockpit windows and an animated interior like the recent jets. I seriously can’t look into a pit of emptiness (void maybe?) and call that my cabin for the next 18 hours.
- More liveries - A bunch of 787 supported cited there are a bunch more liveries/more operators for the 787, than the 767. I won’t really list them, but just know there are a bunch more that could be added to the roster.
- Slight tweaks to the adjustable aircraft settings. This has been changed before like with the A380. With the new model, we could see slight changes in weight, fuel, fuel burn (hope the plane can meet the suggested performance), cargo, etc.
I can’t think of anymore things. Let me know if you have any thoughts on this or you found something that I didn’t. To the winners, GG!
