Heathrow third runway: British steel promise from airport
Surely a runway doesn’t need steel?!
I don’t know, but I can’t imagine them using much. Either way, Port Talbot steel works are still going to close or be hit by steel industry slumps so the article is badly worded IMO unless they are going to purchase a heck of a lot of steel.
If they said those steel were meant for a terminal extension, everyone would be convinced but who, who uses steel to pave a runway? LOL
Foundations Steel mesh
A runway made with steel? I’m correct?
Ain’t no planes gonna be able to land lol
Low friction :P
Maybe they will use the steel for the base of the runway and cover it with something else like tarmac or concret
I’ve never known what’s under a runway lol I thought they just pave it after the cement dries or something
No, I believe the new runway will be going over a highway (correct me if im wrong but thats what i thought i saw) but they could be using that as a bridge for the runway to go over the bridge. Once those steel pieces are in, they are covered right over with massive amounts of concrete for its sturdiness and roughness
The M25 would go into a tunel
Oh goodie a runway above a highway! Sounds like some other countries did this too…
Seattle - KSEA does that, well at least its a busy road, CMH - Port Columbus Intl (my hometown airport) has a road going theough it but the one i know thats really famous for its work with underground stuff is FRA, they had the Autobahn going under one of its runway along with the S-Bahn tracks underground

Ah yes so the steel is mostly, if not, completely for the terminal only?

The BBC has been quite vague on this article… They didn’t even mention a word “terminal” anywhere afaik lol
