What Altitude should I use if I fly from KLAX to MMTJ?

I would like an opinion on which Altitude I should fly to departing from Los Angeles to Tijuana, thanks. Planning on doing this flight sometime later.

You can track me on liveflightapp once I commence this flight.

Check out this if you want to be realistic:

Without being realistic, i would do about FL180.

Oh. I was thinking like 12,000ft.

When do you want to start defending, what’s your flight plan?

I would do somewhere between FL180 and FL200. You can accurately determine your TOC using a formula that I’ve seen on the forums before; I have it written down:

Take your route distance and divide by 2 subtract 10, divide by 3, then take your final answer and multiply by 1,000. This will give you the maximum altitude of cruising based on your route distance. Hope this helps. :)

This all foreign to me lol, I know a lot about planes but not so much what you explained :3

Send me a PM with your route distance and I’ll help you out. :)

I’ll file a flight plan later :3

Try this simple approach:

I like to keep it simple and through this forum have found these two simple formulas!

CRUISE HEIGHT

Total Distance / 7 = Flight Level.

Eg 240/7= 34 = FL340.

TOP OF DESCENT

FL / 3 = Distance To Go ( DTG) when to start your descent

eg FL340 / 3 = 113 nm.

Above are a rule of thumb and need to be adjusted for aircraft weight, traffic conditions etc but works in most cases!

I would probably do 22,000 off the top of my head, but the above post is great.

According to http://onlineflightplanner.org the flight plan distance will be 110nm,

110/7= 15.7 so use FL160

Top of descent will be FL160/3= 53 nm DTG.

HAPPY LANDINGS.

I plan my altitude according to my

  1. cruise speed
  2. what’s the maximum downwards angle I can fly the plane at, while slowing down
  3. distance (obviously)
  4. numbers of other aircraft. (More aircraft=higher up to be able to slip in easier into a stack or que for landing)

Ok guys, I’ll be flying right now. If you want to track me, my ident will be N123IF. I will also file a flight plan and then proceed with my plan :)
