West Palm Beach to New York City, a 9/11 tribute flight

Today 23 years ago the darkest moment not only in aviation history but even American history as a whole occurred. On September 11th, 2001 terrorists hijacked 4 planes, the 1st one was American Airlines flight 11 a Boeing 767-200ER crashing into the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City πŸ—½πŸŽ later another 767-200 this time United Airlines flight 175 crashed into the south tower. Before UA175 struck, people believed it was just an accident but after the 2nd strike people found out we were being attacked. Meanwhile in Washington D.C, American Airlines flight 77 a Boeing 757-200 smashed right into the Pentagon. The final flight was United 93 another B752 out of all the 4 flights, this one NEVER reached its target before it was brought down near Shanksville, Pennsylvania after the passengers and crew tried to take action against the hijackers. 2,996 people were lost with most of them being stuck in the burning WTC towers. πŸ•ŠοΈ

Now every September 11th, we come and pay our respects to not only the victims lost, but the emergency services who risked their lives trying to save as many as we can and the heroic people on UA93 who tried to save more. To commemorate, I decided to fly up to the Big Apple πŸ—½πŸŽ to visit the memorial and pay our respects to the victims lost, as this was special occasion I opted out of flying from Miami 🏝️😎 or even Fort Lauderdale 🏝️πŸ›₯️ instead going for my home of West Palm Beach 🏝️🏌️and I decided to fly Delta since they use Boeing 737-800s on this route and I prefer to fly them rather than the A320s JetBlue fly between NYC and WPB most of the time so let’s get started!

Parked at still 2D PBI at gate C3 is our Boeing 737-800 I’ll be taking up to NYC πŸ—½πŸŽ on our way to the memorial and I gotta say, the Delta livery on this thing is pretty nice maybe I should fly it more often but let’s just get onboard and set everything up but before we got going, I decided to have the whole cabin have a minute of silence for the lost victims πŸ•ŠοΈ

Rotate!

Till the next time West Palm, NYC πŸ—½πŸŽ here I come!

After a pretty gorgeous climb out of WPB. We have reached cruise and the flight attendants soon came around with the service. Another reason why I chose to fly DL over B6 today is that I am 99.8% sure that this is the same flight my English teacher from last year took when she went up to NYC πŸ—½πŸŽ right before school ended and I told her to sit on the left side for an EPIC view and she listened to me, I’m not sure if it was a good idea but it’s fine. Here we are passing over the space coast heading into the Atlantic!

We miss you Captain_Lufty hope NASA is going great!

An hour or so later, we flew a bit off of Washington D.C. which is home to the Pentagon which was attacked along with the WTC on 9/11 and the White House and U.S. Capitol which could’ve been the targets for UA93.

Soon enough, we began our descent as we were getting closer to NYC πŸ—½πŸŽ and here it is the horizon, this is the same view UA175 had while heading towards the south tower.

Unfortunately for my English teacher, the winds decided to prefer the right traffic approach for Runway 22 so she didn’t get to see Manhattan on approach. But we do and
down below in downtown is the former site of the original WTC and is now home to the new one along with the memorial we will be visiting as well.

After flying over the Hudson River on right downwind and a base turn, we find ourselves on final for RWY 22 for LaGuardia airport fasten your seatbelts everybody!

Welcome to New York City! πŸ—½πŸŽ

We soon arrived at the gate to give this aircraft to their next crew and make our way to the memorial to pay respects for those lost on this tragic day before teleporting back home to the 561. That’s all regrading this flight with Delta from West Palm Beach 🏝️🏌️ to New York City πŸ—½πŸŽ stay tuned for Saturday as we head to a new south american destination for me and as always between now and the next time, see you in the sky! πŸ˜‰πŸ‘‹

Never forget,

September 11th πŸ•ŠοΈ
