I was flying an f 22 out of Edwards Air Force base and then I saw this really wierd circle with numbers on it does anyone know what it is if so then please comment on this post.
Take a look at google maps. It is there in real life.
It has also been talked about many times before.
Looks like a compass to me, that is a heading circle to determine heading.
I assume it is a compass, but wow, I have never seen that before! It looks very high quality, I must look at it! Nice find
Here it is on Google maps,
If I had to guess, it was drawn on by the IFAET and not Sat. Imagery.
MaxSez: This scribed/etching is called a āCompass Roseā itās common and found in many forms. WIKI: A compass rose, sometimes called a windrose, or Rose of the Winds, is a figure on a compass, map, nautical chart, or monument used to display the orientation of the cardinal directions: North, East, South, and Westāand their intermediate points. (Google is your friend!)
Fun Fact, The Compass Rose at Edwards was once used as a calibration monument for Photo Satellite (Keyhole) Orientation⦠NS

For satellite calibration. There are other shapes and lines for this purpose as well all over the U.S.
Imagine you are at a base that likes to test aircraft and also land the shuttle. Why not?
We are also having the exact same discussion that we had a month ago.

This compass has been rigged onto Google Sattelite Imagrey since this base is a military base. It has been put on to GoogleMaps since most things here are secrets. Not even joking. Does everybody here even think that has been mowed onto the ground? They have obviously drawn onto a piece of paper and āPhotoshoppedā it onto the Sattelite Imagery.
Iām not even kidding
Interesting find! Never noticed while flying out of KEDW. (Fixed spelling in the title for ya! š)
