Was I in a tornado?

I was flying KEWD to KSAN thinking I would be a simple flight, but then this happened:

If you can see the windspeed above the map, it is over 100 knots. The highest the windspeed went up to was 168kts!

Was this a glitch or was it supposed to happen?

Probably just a wind storm. Seems normal

How long did this last for? I want to go and try to fly through it.

About 2 minutes

A wind storm wouldn’t have up to 168 knots of wind. 😂 That’s an EF 4 tornado my friend.

Seems legit

Microburst, not tornado. If it was a tornado, you’d be spinning, a microburst is a huge downburst of air that is prone to causing aviation disasters.

Almost forgot about microbursts.

@Mix56awesome Was your aircraft pushed down or no?

It was pushed all over the place up, down, left and right.

Then I can say a wind vortex like a dust devil. Considering this was SoCal :)

Dust devils don’t go up to speeds that high, and definitely don’t reach up to 5,000 feet in the air. I’ll just go with a microburst. :)

It probably was a microburst.

This has actually happened before in SoCal. I believe Matt said there was some errors in the METAR…

So like the Torrance incident?

I think so, yep.

Yeah, its is a clear day hear in San Diego, a little wind but not a tornado…

There has been a lot of turbulence lately in Chicago region you couldn’t even keep the same heading.

That’s because of the severe weather there :)

It is usually a hot and arid environment; there are areas all over SoCal, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas that experience rapid-development and subsequent collapse of storm cells.
The more notable instances can produce Haboobs capable of traveling 100’s of miles away from the source.

To agree with some of you, perhaps it was just an in-game atmospheric anomaly. :)

That’s right over the approach for KSAN, if that had happened , it would be a big deal I think.
