NOTAM: Auto Pilot junkies need not apply… (Scenario) Planes of Fame has been chartered to provide warbirds for static display at the LA County Airshow this weekend. Pilots are needed for a quick ferry flight of P-38s and Spitfires to KWJF General William J Fox Airfield… Formation flights are encouraged.
For safety, the airshow organizers are recommending all inbound aircraft enter the pattern via the overhead. Right & Left breaks are authorized. Go arounds are welcomed to entertain the arriving airshow guests.
Arguably the coolest warbird museum around… If you have ever wanted to see one of these rare planes fly in real life, this is the place: http://planesoffame.org/
Thank you for flying everyone! That was fun, happy to report that all the static displays were delivered as promised.
The marine layer over LA was pretty thick, so I couldn’t get a good pic of everyone. It wasn’t until the fog broke over the PMD VOR that I could see anything other than the airplane dots.
I was actually looking for the ufo, and was surprised it didn’t make an appearance!
No worries, this event was more of an expirement to see if it is worth creating events again. The new interface that highlights events on the home page and converts the time format to local really helped spread the word. I was very impressed by the interest and turnout! It gives me a lot of motivation for planning future events.
Hopefully the days of no one showing up to community planned events are a thing of the past :)
