VirtualPorter | Official thread

We are an IFVARB certified VA.

Welcome! We’ve improved while we were gone

You read that right. We did some pretty cool stuff within our tiny community, and we think our future pilots would definitely enjoy it! We closed down a few months prior due to poor management, but now we’re making a comeback as the improved and fresh VirtualPorter.

Our VA: Founded all the way back in November of 2017, VirtualPorter is an Infinite Flight virtual airline based around Porter Airlines, a small Canadian regional carrier operating within Eastern Canada and parts of the Eastern U.S. Our operations within the VA is from the view of a pilot, not the passenger. With this in mind, we want to offer our pilots the best resources for flight available in a VA. Our vision is simple: to be a laid back virtual organisation with a vibrant community centred around our real life counterpart.

Our promise: If you choose to become a part of VirtualPorter, you will be entitled to various events and community activities that take place here. You will also be presented with the opportunity to get to know the Q400 better, all while having a supportive, professional and dedicated administrative team working hard to ensure that we continue to thrive. In the VA, we have a strong emphasis on community bonding - whether that will be through healthy competition, voice chats and so on. We do not (and will never) discriminate anyone based on their race, religion, sexuality, etc.

Why us? After all, it’s time to put your flying hours to use. And what better choice than to join VirtualPorter, where you can enjoy a degree of realism along with various activities and fun! We are the perfect choice for anybody seeking a more relaxed virtual airline experience, or anybody that has an interest in the Q400.

A new beginning…

Ladies and gentlemen, it is with great excitement that we announce our reopening today! Our staff team have worked tirelessly to ensure that our website, community and social media are up to date. Some of you may remember the old Porter Virtual…and we’re taking that one step further. With this reopening, we’ve removed some unnecessary features and added lots of brand new content for our members to enjoy.

What’s new? As you may have already seen, we’ve given our website a refresh. New graphic designs have been added to ensure that our VA theme stays modern and minimalist. The most important feature in this update will be seasons; in each season, there will be multiple competitons for our pilots to partake in, with great prizes to be won. Our #dash magazines will be published each season instead of monthly, so that there will be lots of fresh and entertaining content available. Another new concept that we’ve introduced is our reward programmes, PDplus and PDgold. Fly flights to earn PDplus points, and spend those on unlocking high value rewards! More details can be found on our website and our upcoming VA guide. We’ve also removed a few of the old pilot awards, and in place of those are more challenging and realistic ones. This results in a pilot roster that has become very tidy (and one that’s not just littered with awards). Thunder Bay has now become a brand new crew base for our pilots to station themselves at, but at this point in time crew bases are only used for decorative purposes. Our events and special offers have been split into two separate pages to make this section more user friendly - don’t forget to check out those offers though, as this time they’re much more worth it and are only around for a short period! There’s a lot more new stuff that we haven’t mentioned, and that’s up to you to find out.

What’s next? With this update to VirtualPorter, we unfortunately had to remove some features from before, one of them being our codeshares. However, we will reintroduce these removed features through phased updates, ensuring these features are constantly being improved. A new #dash magazine is also under way, so keep a lookout for that.

Minor tweaks and changes

Over the past few days since our reopening, we’ve made some small adjustments to the features available within our VA community, most notably our website and IFC threads. Some may have noticed this already, but for those who haven’t, we’ve finalised our standardised thread design across the entire IFC. Consistent graphics are very important to us, as we believe that visual aesthetics determine how potential members view us. Moving on, we’ve reduced the prices of our PDgold items (nicknames and special epaulettes) to make it more affordable. They’re still very expensive, but with enough flights and determination, anyone can purchase them. Additionally, a ‘Newcomer’s guide’ page is being developed on our website as of now. This page will feature videos and a PDF detailing on how to settle into the VA and how to utilise the resources we have available.

El Al Virtual partnership!

It’s been a few days since operations resumed, and we are delighted to say that our organisation is doing pretty well! Our members have logged between 5 to 7 flights daily, which is a great ratio in comparison to our 12 members. Activity on Discord is at an all time high, and it continues to increase as more new pilots join. A few members have purchased the first season of our brand new PDplus rewards programme, with one having already reached the maximum rank (a total of 90 PDplus points, equivalent to 90 flights). We’ve also been updating and brushing up features in and around our community platforms, particularly our website to ensure that even the slightest of details are up to date. But that’s just a brief summary of what’s been going on this week. The biggest news we have to share is that we have officially reached an agreement with El Al Virtual for a partnership! Why El Al, you may ask. Well, Porter and El Al do have a partnership agreement in real life, and it was very suitable option to reflect this in our VAs. This means that our pilots will be able to fly the KEWR - LLBG route in the El Al 772 or 789 while still gaining hours for VirtualPorter, which is a great opportunity to explore a different region of the world as well as being a good chance to try a different aircraft. El Al pilots would also be able to fly our Q400 on the KEWR - CYTZ route and back. You can click here to be redirected to their beautifully crafted thread.

So how is the VA update progress? Our next major update (3.0) to VirtualPorter will see the official reintroduction of codeshare/interline agreement flights into our flight schedules. However, members will be required to spend a certain amount of PDplus points in order to fly these routes, to prevent abuse. We’re currently in the process of negotiating with a few more VAs for partnerships. Fingers crossed for successful partnerships! Additionally, @Snow_Cone is working hard on creating brand new tutorial videos for our upcoming ‘How to’ page, aimed at guiding newcomers around our community (which we understand can be quite complicated to navigate and fully grasp due to the large variety of activities/features we offer) to settle into our VA. A fresh VA guide is also waiting to be published, which would include more details on our entire organisation. Keep in mind that the current VA guide on our website is severely out of date!
