Virgin Atlantic Cancels A380 order

It’s about time we can say that after 12 years of waiting Virgin Atlantic have finally cancelled their order for 6 Airbus A380’s. In 2016 they ordered 12 A350-1000’s as it will be their new “flagahip” aircraft. Since they will start getting those next year, it was time to cancel the A380 order. They will be retiring the 747’s by the end of 2019 and the A340’s by an estimated 2022. This is big news.

Not surprised to be honest! The A380 program is slowly loosing money

I think a Virgin Atlantic livery would look cool on an A380.

Exactly what I was referring too.

Honestly, the title made it seems like they confirmed the orders for the A380.

I was really hoping they didn’t retire the 747. Virgin Atlantic and 747 go together. it won’t be the same.

I know right. Kind of a click bait title if you ask me. I had to read the article to make sense of it

That’s too bad, I was looking forward to it in the Virgin Atlantic livery😔 The A350 will be nice though!

Personally, I’m glad. While the A380 is historic, I do not like the idea of more ugly ‘whales’ being in our skies. I think the A380 is basically a several-billion dollar “LOOK WHAT I CAN DO!” to Boeing. I hope that these will end up in a museum sooner rather than later.

Saw that one from a mile away. VS never needed them for TATL markets. This is not the A380’s fault, Branson wanted to make a splash, but then the 2008 economic crisis knocked more sense into Branson, and VS.

Frankely supprised they eaven had an order, the A380 will be luckey to make the year I think…

The A380 has orders to keep going for another 6 years. Is there an article I missed?

I can’t even see how Virgin Atlantic could use the A380 profitably.

Back when they initially ordered it, Sir Richard Branson said he wanted a deluxe version of the A380, basically a boutique luxury commercial airliner.

Branson is always doing this to get a few free column inches in the popular press.

Friends who work in Virgin knew from day 1 the aircraft would NEVER get delivered.

It’s all bluster, a bit like his speech about getting Concorde airborne again!

Emirates buys a bunch of A380’s and then virgin cancels 6. I doubt people at Airbus are very happy about that 🤔
